I read with dismay your article in Saturdays Independent on the safety of 5G. I think you do a huge disservice to Ireland Inc but in particular to Irish Children and Pregnant Mothers. These people should be warned on the adverse effects of Pulsed Polarised Modulated Microwave Radiation on their health and wellbeing.

The Irish Government has consistently failed to meet its obligations from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe with Resolution 1815 in (2011), the Phone manufacturers are totally disingenuous, in that they bury the Warnings six deep in their T+C and an Oireachtas Bill No 24 of 2011, The Mobile Phone Radiation Warning Act 2011 which fell because of the government change was never followed up.

As result of this huge vacuum in reliable health and safety information, nobody in authority is telling our children and pregnant mothers about the dangers of their exposure to this ubiquitous sea of Pulsed Polarised Modulated Microwave Radiation.

It is respected technical journalists like you that need to reinforce and amplify these responsible warnings.

When you say the following in today’s article I would think that a huge number of Independent Scientists Worldwide will strongly disagree with your dated assertions.

“According to Ireland’s regulator, this type of radiation only has sufficient energy for “excitation” and can’t “break bonds that hold molecules in cells together”.

This is just 100% Wrong / Incorrect / Scientifically Not Correct / it is also a Disingenuous Lie and shame on Comreg for repeating and perpetuating a misconception of classical physics.

There are two main issues that confound and amplify the widespread misunderstandings that we are facing today. The first is a misassumption of Classical Physics in a Biological System, the famous “Non-Ionizing Radiation Story” and the second is the historical mistake of using a totally inappropriate “Thermal Effects Safety Guidelines” from ICNIRP to the assess safety of the mobile phone microwave radiation.

Physical science tells us that Non-Ionising Radiation (NIR) does not possess the energy to damage Chemical Covalent Bonds, so it could not damage DNA and is therefore perfectly safe!

This is part of the official disinformation that industry and regulators buy and sell.

The disinformation comes because Microwave Radiation energy is classified in the Electro-Magnetic Spectrum as a Non-Ionising Radiation (NIR) and by definition the energy of this  radiation is not strong enough to ionise a molecule by breaking a covalent chemical bond.

The typical energy of a covalent bond is in the order of 1 electron–Volt (1 eV = 1.6 .10^-19 Joules). The force required to break a covalent bond is in the order of 1 eV/0.1 nm ~ 1600 pN. (pico Newtons)

The energy in the microwave radiation is well below this level. At 3 GHz it is 1.8*10⁻²⁴Joules.

So, this is the science that lays out the impossibility of Microwave radiation being able to damage DNA because it is too weak in energy terms to rip the electrons off and break any of the bonds present in DNA.  And this is the “rock-solid classical physics” that the whole disinformation story rests on.

So, most Engineers will spout out this story, almost as religious Dogma and poo-poo the whole idea of Microwaves causing any negative health effects.

The only problem with the story is the horrible fact that microwave radiation at the levels present in mobile phones does in fact damage DNA. Not expected, but sadly true. So, this is the reason why there is so much deliberate confusion, from an Engineering standpoint it is not going to happen, yet in Biology it happens!

This short reference summarises the science that attests to the reality that the biologists are correct. It is known as the 2004 EU Reflex Study and the following link gives a summary.

If you read the last paragraph of the article you will see the skulduggery the industry resorted to try to discredit this work.

This is the study that showed 24 hours of mobile phone radiation did the same amount of DNA damage as 60 CT Scans in or 250 years of The Earth’s background radiation.  

How many people would voluntarily submit to 60 CT scans in 24 hours?

Science is getting better as time goes by and there are thousands of studies that back up the fact that NIR effects our biology and can in fact damage DNA. One theory of how this may happen is that NIR in living systems can create “Free Radicals” which in turn can damage DNA. But even if there is some debate as to the nature of the mechanisms that can cause the damage to occur, there is absolutely no debate that DNA damage does take place.

But Adrian don’t take my word for this, you have a simple choice, listen to compromised regulators in Comreg dishing out 30-year-old myths about Non-Ionising Radiation or just Google and see they don’t make any sense.

Try to Google (“Microwave Radiation” “DNA Damage”) you may see that there are approx. 53,300 hits on Google.  Now that’s not bad for something that can’t happen!

And guess what there is even a field of Science called Bio-electromagnetics dedicated to this type of research with many tens of thousands of peer reviewed articles from Scientists all over the world that all working on something COMREG says can’t happen.

However even with science on the side of the Biologists, being right is not enough to upset the whole NIR house of cards story that is supported by a multi trillion-euro global business.

Thermal Based Standards Irish (cut and paste) ICNIRP guidelines are not a measure of the damage the radiation may be doing to our bodies they are simply a measure of the amount of heat absorbed by a body. The ICNIRP thermal-only exposure limit is not safe.

Microwave Radiation Affects our Biology, it has an effect which varies between people but it does have deleterious effects on all life forms.

There are many well documented Bio-effects on our health and well-being, related to mobile phone and wireless technology. Bioeffects are clearly established and occur even at very low levels of exposure to electromagnetic fields and radiofrequency radiation.

The work that Martin Pall has highlighted on VGCC’s and the very simple lab experiments showing direct effect of RF on live cells in a flask with an electrode measuring the reactive nitrogen species when exposed to RF are so clear, RF at the levels present in mobile phones rapidly releases oxidative species.

Every living entity is different and will react differently to external and internal EMF stimuli.

We know that RF has biological effects what we don’t know well enough are the consequences for living creatures.

I have tried to convey to you the complexity of the effects of EMF’s on living creatures, we are only beginning to see a little of what goes on at the molecular and cellular levels.

With respect your reporting on 5G is incomplete.

At present the five Irish operations have purchased spectrum only in the 600 MHz to 3.6 GHz frequencies. These are similar type of frequencies being used in LTE 4G. One of the big worries for people is that the use of higher frequencies which are planned for future 5G installations (already in the US) have had no safety testing according to the US Telecom’s trade organisation CTIA.

Couple that with the evisceration of the Irish planning laws (S.I. No. 31 of 2018) which means that Telecom Operators can decide when and where the thousands of mini-cell antennae are placed not the local planners.

Your 5G hype tells us ….Aside from speed, 5G is being touted as infrastructure that may be necessary for new types of emergency healthcare and, eventually, autonomous vehicles. This is partly due to its instantaneous connection capability, otherwise referred to as ‘low latency’.

What you don’t tell us is that there is nothing wireless can do that fibre cannot do in terms of speed or low latency.

You also fail to mention that “Wireless broadband” is more profitable for the operators. So instead of supplying safe wired / fibre broadband to all our citizens, we hear from you that their profits are more important than citizens health.

When 5G is fully rolled out there will be hundreds of thousands of antennae in our homes, streets, factories, offices, schools and hospitals it will be impossible to escape this Untested 5G Weaponised Radiation.

The 5G hype is: It will deliver 1000 times the download speed (full length movie in 1 to 2 seconds), 1000 times the data transfer, thanks to using the Higher Energy 5G Frequency spectrum (Millimetre Waves).

Now take a moment and think about it !  Will the electricity usage be 1000 time higher ? Or even just 100 times higher or even just 10 times higher ? No-body in authority really knows at this moment.

5G promises 1000-time faster speeds because of the higher frequencies (higher energy). Unfortunately, this will come at a high cost in electrical energy usage and the corresponding Carbon Footprint.

Questions need to be asked on who is driving this 5G madness, who stands to benefit and who stands to lose. The people of Ireland will definitely be the biggest losers, more EU fines, increasing Carbon Footprint meaning severe reductions in other vital areas that really need to use the carbon.

Our DCCAE and Comreg are not presently credible sources of information. On the contrary, these government department appears to be firmly and unshakably committed to the ICNIRP thermal-only dogma, exactly because that dogma allows unbridled expansion of the wireless and telecommunications industries.

• It is time to stop believing ICNIRP spin. Tissue heating is not the only biological effect of radiofrequency radiation. The ICNIRP thermal-only exposure limit is not safe.
• Like tobacco smoke, low intensity radiofrequency radiation has multiple harmful effects on human health. Unlike second-hand smoke, second-hand radiation is fast becoming inescapable. The present situation is thus worse than the Big Tobacco story.
• Elected politicians should stop accepting biased reports from individuals with blatant conflicts of interest and start taking seriously the health and safety of their constituents; or at least of their own children and grandchildren.
• The unchecked expansion of Big Wireless permitted by ICNIRP’s thermal-only guidelines is actively harmful to all biological inhabitants of planet Earth. Further expansion to 5G technology will inevitably involve yet more radiation exposure. The fact that this exposure will not breach the ludicrously high ICNIRP-based standard is no defence at all.

The people of Ireland deserve to hear the truth about 5G from our information sources such as the Press / TV / Web and not modulated hype and 30-year-old misinformation.

Satellite Launches

Elon Musk’s company, SpaceX, plans to launch 12,000 satellites to supply 5G globally from space. The first 60 satellites were launched on May 23, 2019 from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The second set of 60 satellites are scheduled to be launched on November 17; the third set of 60 satellites on December 4. As soon as 420 satellites are launched, SpaceX plans to begin providing global 5G service to a limited number of customers. This must not happen. The activation of 5G satellites in space threatens catastrophic effects, as early as this coming spring — not from the direct radiation, but from the alteration of the Earth’s electromagnetic environment, upon which everyone depends for their life and health. Elon’s younger brother, Kimbal Musk, who is on SpaceX’s board of directors, lives in Boulder, Colorado, and is an environmentalist who cares about the Earth and our future. One of the organizations he founded, Big Green, has dozens of officers and team members and has installed raised bed “Learning Gardens” in public schools throughout the area. Birds in Peril

Canadian scientists with the National Research Council proved already in the 1960s that bird feathers make good receiving aerials for microwave radiation and that low-level microwaves cause birds distress, deteriorated health and mortality. Spanish biologist Alfonso Balmori has proved that radio waves interfere with nesting and reproduction. Scientists at the University of Oldenburg in Germany have proved that radio waves interfere with bird migration.

Two week ago, I received a phone call from geneticist Julian Northey in Ontario, Canada. He told me that last year, many Canadian geese were so disoriented that they never flew south for the winter. He observed flocks of geese near the shore of Lake Ontario, flying due east one day, due west the following day, and due east the day after that. In the dead of winter, in January and into February, when they should have been south in a warmer climate, they were still in Canada flying back and forth, unable to find their bearings, honking and honking in distress.

Unlike irradiated humans, irradiated birds are not on anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications. Instead, they are attacking people. “Proving Hitchcock Right, Bird Attacks Are Turning Violent This Summer”, read a July 15, 2019 headline in the Wall Street Journal. In Massachusetts, Minnesota, British Columbia, Montana, Colorado and Illinois, red-winged blackbirds, crows, hawks and wild turkeys are divebombing people and whacking them in the head.

In Bulgaria in June, 5G was tested for the first time in Sofia. According to an email I received on July 17 from a 20-year-old girl who lives there, this resulted in the deaths of more than 700 pigeons — reminiscent of an earlier, similar report from The Hague.

“Where have all the Birds Gone?” asked Max Silverman on July 1, 2019 in his Birding Diary from England. “I have been out with the camera several times since my last blog which was over a month ago now but have really struggled to find any birds to point the camera at,” he writes.

Here in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Richard Balthazar wrote on July 1, 2019: “This past week I’ve been horrified to see the cherries ripening on the tree next door — and simply hanging there till over-ripe and falling to litter the ground. Always before, as the cherries started to turn red, the tree would be a-flutter with flocks of birds pecking the heck out of them. Now I’ve seen no more than three of our little birds struggling to reach a fruit or two. Where have all the birds gone?”

Insect Armageddon

This youtube video from California showing dead and dying bees falling out of the air near mobile phone antennas has been circulating recently.

Alongside birds, the world’s insect populations are plummeting just as drastically, if not more so. This is not surprising, considering that all insects have antennae, with which they detect their environment and communicate with one another. This is explained in the important booklet, Bees, Birds and Mankind: Destroying Nature by ‘Electrosmog’, published in 2007 by German biologist Ulrich Warnke.

In the last two years, scientists worldwide are waking up to this emergency. In 2017, scientists reported that the number of flying insects in 63 protect nature areas in Germany had declined by 75 to 80 percent since 1989. In September 2018, scientists reported that the number of insects caught in sticky traps in a Puerto Rican rainforest had declined, incredibly, by 97 to 98 percent since the 1970s. And in January 2019, scientists from Australia and Belgium concluded that these types of declines are occurring worldwide and among all types of insects. On February 10, 2019, a headline in The Guardian announced: “Plummeting insect numbers ‘threaten collapse of nature’”. Some scientists are blaming this on pesticides, habitat loss, or climate change. Others are throwing up their hands and saying “We don’t know why this is happening.”

But it has been happening for a long time. By 1906, ninety percent of the honey bees had disappeared from the Isle of Wight, where Marconi had established his first permanent radio station. The progression from “Isle of Wight disease” to “disappearing disease” to “colony collapse disorder” to “insect armageddon” has brought us to the brink of catastrophe. We do know why, and it must, finally, be halted.

“It Feels Like I’m Living in a Microwave Oven”

One day in April of this year, 5G antennas were installed near an apartment building in Geneva, Switzerland. Johan Perruchoud, age 29, a video and film maker who lives on the fifth floor, suddenly couldn’t sleep, and his ears started whistling. “In particular at home,” he says, “I felt —how can I put it — like I was in a microwave oven. I was not well in the house, as if I was surrounded by ghosts.”

His neighbor, actor and director Elidan Arzoni, age 50, fared worse. On the same day in April, his ears suddenly started making very loud sounds, so loud that it is “unlivable”, and he felt pains on the left side and back of his skull, and in his chest. His chest pains were so violent that he thought he was having a heart attack and went to the hospital emergency room two days later. His wife and three children, ages 9, 16 and 21, all suffer from insomnia, which began at the same time in April.

I received an email at the end of May from a social worker in Vancouver, Canada. She works for the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. “Vancouver is seriously radioactive. Someone please help me,” she wrote. I spoke with her and she echoed Mr. Arzoni’s words: her city is unlivable. Vancouver is leading the way in Canada in the installation of 5G.

Fegan Scott Launches Investigation over Troubling Research Showing Radiation Risk from Millions of Cell Phones

Apple and Samsung facing class action suit due to handset RF radiation emissions

Apple and Samsung are about to face a class action suit. In court documents filed last Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, the smartphone giants are accused of exceeding the legal RF emission limits set forth by the Federal Communications Commission.

In the class-action suit, it reads: “Numerous recent scientific publications, supported by hundreds of scientists worldwide, have shown that RF radiation exposure affects living organisms at levels well below most international and national guidelines.”

Also, the class action complaint said: “Effects include increased cancer risk, cellular stress, increase in harmful free radicals, genetic damages, structural and functional changes of the reproductive system, learning and memory deficits, neurological disorders, and negative impacts on general well-being in humans.”

The defendants of the class action suit are being sued for “negligence, breach of warranty, consumer fraud, and unjust enrichment, seeking actual damages, the costs of medical monitoring, restitution and injunctive relief.”

One of the lawyers from the firm handling the class plaintiffs, Beth Fegan said: “The fact that the Chicago Tribune can convene a group of experts and develop such convincing findings shows that the phone manufacturers may be intentionally hiding what they know about radiation output.”

The class suit against Samsung and Apple was filed after results of an independent study commissioned by the Chicago Tribune was published last Wednesday.

The Chicago Tribune paid for the smartphone test conducted last year. It was performed by an accredited California-based company called RF Exposure Lab. The laboratory is one of the few SAR testing labs in the United States.

The newspaper’s commission to test the smartphones were not meant to rank them according to safety. There were only a total of 11 smartphone models subjected to the testing.

In its report, the Chicago Tribune said: “The Federal Communications Commission, which is responsible for regulating phones, states on its website that if a cellphone has been approved for sale, the device “will never exceed” the maximum allowable exposure limit.

Based on the series of tests conducted, exposure from certain devices like Apple’s iPhone7, iPhone 8, and iPhone X has exceeded the limits federally mandated. Samsung Galaxy phones like S8, S9, and J3 also eclipsed the limits. There were also tests done on three Motorola phones and one Vivo smartphone.

In one of the testing phases, all the phones were situated at the same distance as where their manufacturers positioned them in their tests. The distance was usually between 5 to 15 millimeters.

However, a second phase was requested by the Chicago Tribune. According to the second test results, the Samsung Galaxy 8 recorded the highest radiation of 8.22. This was followed by Apple’s iPhone 7 with its 7.15 score. The distance of the standard test was done 2 millimeters away from the body.

When companies test their new phones for compliance, they are allowed to set the phones up to 25 millimeters away from the body. This all depends on how the device will be used.

In response to the test results that the Chicago Tribune has reported, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) said that it would conduct its testing over the next couple of months.

“We take seriously any claims on non-compliance with the RF (radio frequency) exposure standards and will be obtaining and testing the subject phones for compliance with FCC rules,” said FCC spokesman Neil Grace.

In response to the test results shared by the Chicago Tribune, Apple has questioned the findings. The tech giant said that the testing done by the laboratory was not the proper way to assess their iPhones.

Apple has yet to say what they specifically found wrong with the Chicago Tribune commissioned test. It also did not share the steps their phones undergo to test their radiofrequency radiation levels.

Based on Apple’s response, the Chicago Tribune requested for another round of tests to be done on the iPhones. For the iPhone 7, it still registered above the safety limit. The iPhone 8, on the other hand, had a new result. In the first test, its measurement was over the limit. However, in the new results, it came under the standard safety level.

The new test results were forwarded to Apple but they have declined a request for an interview and asked the Chicago Tribune send their questions instead.

Radiation exposure has long been a concern for the public, policy makers, and health researchers. Beginning with radar during World War II, human exposure to radio-frequency radiation¹ (RFR) technologies has grown substantially over time. In 2011, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) reviewed the published literature and categorized RFR as a “possible” (Group 2B) human carcinogen. A broad range of adverse human health effects associated with RFR have been reported since the IARC review. In addition, three large-scale carcinogenicity studies in rodents exposed to levels of RFR that mimic lifetime human exposures have shown significantly increased rates of Schwannomas and malignant gliomas, as well as chromosomal DNA damage. Of particular concern are the effects of RFR exposure on the developing brain in children. Compared with an adult male, a cell phone held against the head of a child exposes deeper brain structures to greater radiation doses per unit volume, and the young, thin skull’s bone marrow absorbs a roughly 10-fold higher local dose. Experimental and observational studies also suggest that men who keep cell phones in their trouser pockets have significantly lower sperm counts and significantly impaired sperm motility and morphology, including mitochondrial DNA damage. Based on the accumulated evidence, we recommend that IARC re-evaluate its 2011 classification of the human carcinogenicity of RFR, and that WHO complete a systematic review of multiple other health effects such as sperm damage. In the interim, current knowledge provides justification for governments, public health authorities, and physicians/allied health professionals to warn the population that having a cell phone next to the body is harmful, and to support measures to reduce all exposures to RFR.
